“Imagine facing the weekend not knowing if there will be enough food at home. This is a harsh reality for too many students, as one in five children in B.C. experiences food insecurity due to rising food and housing costs that continue to burden families.”

“[Kalamalka Starfish Program] opened the fundraiser on Friday, April 25, with the goal of raising money to support the group’s work to provide meals for school children in need.”
The fifth annual Stand Up For challenge saw boarders paddle the 18-kilometre length of Kalamalka Lake to raise money. The event took place September 3rd and surpassed its $24,000 goal even before participants hit the water.
When all was said and done, they had raised $31,110 raised for Kalamalka Starfish Pack. The funds will provide backpacks full of food each weekend to 50 children for the entire school year.
Members of Vernon’s RCMP detachment have chipped in to support the local Starfish meal program for hungry kids.
The Roster Sports Club and Grill’s Dish Out the Kindness fundraiser raised $5,000 that will be split between the Upper Room Mission and Kalamalka Starfish Pack Program.
Vernon Starfish received a donation of almost $6000 from The Great West Equipment’s Christmas Silent Auction. Because of this, 11 children in Vernon will be fed for the year!
